College is a time for students to explore opportunities and form one’s values and identities. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is known as, “Wisconsin’s Singing University” and provides students with new possibilities through music.
The Cabin is UWEC’s most popular music destination featuring a wide variety of musical acts every weekend. It features a wide variety of musical acts that reflect the musical nature of the city of Eau Claire as a whole. With a population of 50,000 Eau Claire attracts hundreds of thousands of music festival attendees each summer to the Eaux Claires and Country Jam Festivals. Eaux Claires is put on by former Eau Claire grad Bon Iver just like the Cabin focuses on indie and folk music with a heavy emphasis on arts and poetry.
Arts and poetry are important to students on campus. When Haley Parvin decided to major in music education at UWEC, she couldn’t pass up the chance to perform her original songs at The Cabin. The Cabin is a place for music students to gain professional career experience. Whether a student aims to become a music teacher or a worldwide performer, UWEC has opportunities and programs for them.

Among the many programs, Music Education major, Foua Xiong, is one of many students at UWEC who wakes up knowing she is striving towards her passion. Like many, Xiong is so enthusiastic when she discusses what she wants to do in the future with her degree. Music education is just one of the nine possible music majors. Xiong believes that every individual has the opportunity to connect with music in different ways, and stresses that assessing music helps lead to higher thinking.
Higher thinking is a concept that not only students take seriously. Elizabeth Joosten is a first year choir conductor and professor at the UWEC. She is from a small town of Cameron, WI and attended UW-River Falls. She made her way back to her hometown and taught music for 18 years. Elizabeth explained how music was her passion and she emphasized that if you know your calling, “Just do it.” Elizabeth is one of many professors at UWEC who dedicates their time helping students grow into the people they strive be. Whether it be band, choir or orchestra, music helps lead students toward their goals in higher education.
This blog does an excellent job of showcasing what UWEC has to offer musically to anyone interested in the university. The text is very informative and easy to understand if you are not in the university. The messages are consistent as far as the tone of voice and make you interested in the vocal programs. Also, the infographics do a great job of diversifying the visuals. I enjoyed the videos as well since they gave a real-world example of how great the program is and what it can do for students. The multimedia elements definitely do a great job of making the post more interesting. If I were a high-school student interested in vocal programs and I were to read this blog, it would definitely encourage me to want to go to Eau Claire.

The targeted public of this blog post seems to be prospective students for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. This is shown through the infographics that include things like different music majors and employment options for music majors after graduating. The videos are also appealing to prospective students because they get a look into the “everyday life” of a music major at UW-Eau Claire. Including videos of The Cabin, professors, and current music majors and what they are doing on campus is very persuasive for prospective students interested in music. Altogether, I find this blog post to be very informative, appealing, and persuasive for the targeted public. By consistently conveying their message of how great the music program is at UW-Eau Claire in different mediums, I find that this post will persuade anyone interested in furthering their education in music to at least take a look at what the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has to offer.

This blog post seems to be targeted at prospective students because of the many mentions of what someone can do with a music degree to persuade students who are unsure of whether or not to major in music and the mentions of various music venues both on and off campus. The message is consistent throughout the piece of how music is easily accessible to students for those who want to find local groups at festivals and what not as well as encouraging being a music major and following one’s dreams. The infographics provide lots of persuasive information such as what a person can do with a music degree and the amount of graduates with a music degree with a job within four months of graduation. The most of the videos are appealing with either interviews or useful general information about The Cabin, which would be good for newer students. The blog post is appealing because of how well it implemented the multimedia aspects of the projects. It invites students to investigate more about the topic. I believe it would successfully persuade the targeted public if they are unsure about being music major and if they were interested in The Cabin.
